What is Performance Feedback?

Performance feedback is a method of giving feedback that is focused on improving behaviors. Feedback can be both positive and negative.

It is also the information an employee receives from a rater about their performance. This information can be positive or negative and is meant to help the employee improve.

It is based on the idea that people change when they are motivated to change, and they’re motivated by the desire to perform.

The best performance feedback is focused on helping an employee to achieve goals and involves specific goals, specific rewards, and specific plans to put the feedback into action.

Performance feedback should be specific and focused on behaviors and should encourage the recipient to keep working toward the goal they’ve set for themselves.

Tips to give a useful feedback:

  1. Keep up-to-date information about each employee's position.
  2. Make regular notes of employee performance.
  3. Solicit information from other managers.
  4. Get to the point.
  5. Note opportunities for improvement.
  6. Use clear, actionable language.
  7. Solicit a dialogue.
  8. Ask the right questions.

Performance feedback is necessary in order to identify areas in which an individual needs improvement. By providing constructive feedback, individuals can work to improve their skills and abilities. Additionally, performance feedback can help to identify areas where an individual may need additional training or development. Ultimately, performance feedback is essential to the growth and development of individuals within an organization.
