Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Duties:

  • Provide day to day care with medical acuity to patients in urgent care setting
  • Practices evidence based medicine
  • Provide recommendations based upon research findings
  • Maintain and integrate services within the healthcare facility and with outside providers
  • Provides feedback to management on policies and procedures

Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Responsibilities:

  • Assist physicians in diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses
  • Provide patient care, including conducting physical exams, diagnosing and administering medications, and prescribing treatments
  • Conduct ongoing patient assessments, monitor patient progress, and record data
  • Assesses patient and family needs, and facilitates coordination of care with other health care providers
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions and treatments
  • Advise physicians regarding patient progress and needs
  • Approve or refer patients to specialists
  • Supervise or delegate activities of non-nurse providers
  • Perform job responsibilities in accordance with established policies, procedures, and practices

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Current, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse (RN) with prescriptive authority from an appropriate state board of nursing
  • 1-3 years of acute care nursing experience
