An after-school teacher is a non-classroom teacher who provides educational support and enrichment activities in schools.

After-school teachers may be certified teachers, who work in the schools full-time, or they might be teachers with masters degrees who work part-time.

After-school teachers are responsible for various classroom duties, such as grading tests.

They also provide academic enrichment to students by teaching chess, art, computer programming, music, cooking, science, or French classes.

One-on-one or small group tutoring may be conducted by after-school teachers.

Job Brief:

We are looking for an After-school Teacher to work with elementary school students on homework and enrichment activities. The ideal candidate will be patient and have experience working with children in a school or after-school setting.

After-school Teacher Duties:

  • Design and implement curriculum that meets academic standards
  • Ensure each student understands the content taught
  • Provide one-on-one and small group instruction, utilizing a variety of teaching techniques
  • Monitor and record student progress
  • Create daily lesson plans that align with the instructional objectives
  • Manage the classroom environment by organizing, decorating, and monitoring student behavior
  • Communicate with students, families, and school staff
  • Ensure staff work assignments are completed
  • Conduct assessments to gauge students’ progress
  • Maintains regular communication with parents
  • Assist in facility maintenance
  • Assist in fundraising and event planning

After-school Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Coaches students in a one-on-one setting, planning and teaching lessons, and observing student progress
  • Manages class and student behavior
  • Oversees the classroom setup (including seating charts) and student supplies
  • Maintains and enforces classroom rules
  • Makes classroom announcements
  • Assignments/grading
  • Monitors attendance and student behavior
  • Manages curriculum
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates enrichment activities
  • Works with administrators, parents, and other educators to meet student needs
  • Supports policies and procedures
