Apprentice Plumber Job Description

An apprenticeship plumber is a plumbing professional who has completed its training as an indentured trainee.

An apprentice plumber is usually employed on a part-time basis, usually 16 to 40 hours a week, completing tasks under the supervision of a fully licensed master plumber.

After an apprentice plumber completes its training, it must pass the National Board for Certification in Plumbing exam to obtain its license.

As of 2006, only nine states require a one-year apprenticeship.

A plumbing license is not required by all states.

However, without one, an apprentice plumber cannot legally practice.
