Architectural Drafter Job Description

A drafter is a designer who creates physical drawings that communicate ideas and information.

Architectural drafters, also called architectural designers, usually work under the direction of an architect or other member of a design team.

A drafter uses computer-aided design software to create technical drawings and blueprints.

She also prepares supporting documentation and communicates design intent to project team members.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for an experienced Architectural Drafter to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit, and be able to hit the ground running on a variety of projects. Architectural Drafter Duties:

• Research, analyze, and model existing structures to determine building requirements and design plans for future structures
• Create plans and specifications based on research and analyses
• Create drawings, sketches, and computer renderings as necessary
• Create construction documents
• Design and build models
• Identify engineering, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing elements
• Review projects to ensure compliance with building requirements
• Produce detailed sketches, drawings, designs, and blueprints
• Work with architects, engineers, and contractors on projects
• Assist engineers in analyzing design information and making recommendations
• Review and analyze plans and specifications
• Develop blueprint drawings, sketches, and models
• Design, prepare, and proofread technical drawings
• Proactively identify, mitigate, and track recurring construction issues
• Design and develop technical, process, and system

Architectural Drafter Responsibilities:

• Prepare architectural drawings for site design and landscape architecture
• Work on projects from conception to final construction documentation, and collaborate with civil engineers, architects, and landscape architects
• Prepares and reviews preliminary sketches, working drawings, and detail drawings, and coordinates with vendors and clients
• Interact with clients, vendors, and contractors, and attend meetings to ensure projects remain on schedule
• Keep up to date with technology, and incorporate CAD and BIM systems into workflow

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree or experience in architectural drafting
• Excellent knowledge of scales and measurements
• Knowledge of design practices and building codes
• Proficient in the use of standard drafting equipment
• Knowledge of architectural terms and materials
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to work with architectural plans, elevations
