Assistant Director of Nursing Duties

  • Direct and coordinate the activities of the nursing department, ensuring that all personnel perform their duties in accordance with performance standards
  • Adhere to budgetary guidelines, identifying, evaluating and implementing cost-saving methods
  • Develop and evaluate strategies for personnel training, professional development, and facility maintenance
  • Ensure that nursing personnel are available when and as needed to ensure optimum patient care
  • Provide direction to nursing staff, resolving problems as they arise
  • Develop policies and procedures for nursing personnel
  • Recommend changes to improve quality of care
  • Maintain a current working knowledge of nursing methods and procedures
  • Maintain and oversee all medical records and files
  • Provide input into strategic planning processes
  • Enforce legal regulations, building and safety codes, and other requirements
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other departments
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and other events
  • Organize facility events
  • Oversee emergency and disaster preparedness

Assistant Director of Nursing Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the day to day operations of the nursing unit and ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring unit-wide nursing policies and procedures
  • Assist in analyzing and revising policies and procedures
  • Oversee hiring and firing of staff
  • Oversee the development and implementation of training programs
  • Ensure safety of patients, staff, and facility
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, families, community, and vendors
  • Spend 6-8 hours daily on shift responsible for nursing unit, including supervision of staff and patient flow to ensure optimal patient care and satisfaction
  • Monitor staffing levels to ensure optimum patient flow
  • Enforce regulatory compliance and standards
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with physicians and other health care professionals

Requirements And Skills


  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing degree from an accredited program
  • 2+ years’ experience as a registered nurse
  • Registered nurse in good standing with current license to practice
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
