A business development representative (BDR) is a sales representative dedicated to selling to new businesses.

Depending on the company, a BDR may be responsible for selling to businesses in specific industries or all businesses.

Business Development Representative Responsibilities:

  • Prepare internal and external proposals, quotes, contract agreements, and other related documents
  • Review and revise bids for accuracy and completeness, and perform bid analysis
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective customers, and maintain consistent communication with existing clients
  • Meet with prospective and existing clients to discuss proposals, bids, contract terms, and agreements
  • Initiate new client development and contact potential new customers
  • Evaluate market opportunities and recommend new business opportunities
  • Research industry trends and competition
  • Research and identify potential joint venture partners
  • Work with accounting department to analyze financial data

Requirements And Skills:

  • 1-3 years of successful sales experience
  • Proven sales track record in competitive environment
