A cable technician is an individual who installs new or damaged cable infrastructure within a building and is responsible for all maintenance related work.

Cable technicians install cables and connectors and transfer cable data using optic fiber or copper.

Most cable technicians are employed by telecommunications companies, cable or fiber contractors, or cable installers.

Cable technicians are often trained in fiber optics, fiber optic networking, cable splicing, cable television, and telecommunications.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Cable Technician who is responsible for installing and maintaining communications cable systems. The Cable Technician will install cable in customer residences and business locations, as well as troubleshoot and repair existing cable systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in the installation and maintenance of communications systems, and will be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Cable Technician Duties:

  • Perform a wide range of tasks, from installation to repair, with this job as a cable technician
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot cable television systems
  • Attend to various customer issues
  • Perform a variety of routine tasks
  • Research and update current technology
  • Assist with general office duties

Cable Technician Responsibilities:

  • Instructed a minimum of 2,000 hours of cable technology
  • In-structed a minimum of 1,000 hours of cable television technology
  • Knowledge of basic cable technologies, including signal flow, direct burial, and coaxial
  • Excellent communication skills

Requirements And Skills:

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot all cable infrastructure
  • Perform work according to contractor’s timelines, work scopes, procedures, and certifications
  • Work with outside contractors and service providers
  • Maintain and update service documentation and records
  • Conduct field inspections, and assist with customer service
  • Receive and troubleshoot calls and issue service orders
  • Maintain and update billing and accounting records
  • Work with management to increase customer satisfaction
