A cashier or a retail cashier is the person at a retail establishment who receives money at a cash register for goods and services. Cashiers usually give customers change, issue receipts, and also accept cash, checks, and credit cards.
The cashier may also collect debts if a customer is unable to pay with cash. Cashiers work in a wide variety of retail establishments including supermarkets, convenience stores, discount stores, liquor stores, convenience stores, and department stores.
In most modern shops, barcodes are scanned using a laser scanner. After scanning all items, the cashier receives payment, records the amount, makes change, and provides receipts or tickets.
