Certified Medical Assistant Job Description

A Certified Medical Assistant is a physician assistant that has completed extensive training and passed national certification exams.

A Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) is a health care professional who has completed a minimum of six months of college-level study, plus at least 1,050 hours of clinical experience.

A CCMA must pass a national certification exam administered by the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

A Certified Medical Assistant must have completed a minimum of 1,050 hours in clinical training, including 1,000 hours of hands-on patient care and 50 hours of clinical laboratory training.

Job Brief:

We're looking for a Certified Medical Assistant to join our team! The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude.

Certified Medical Assistant Duties:

  • Establish and maintain positive customer relations by greeting clients in a professional, friendly manner.
  • Establish and maintain efficient work processes by managing time, completing tasks on time, and adhering to schedules and deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate records by recording patient information and other relevant details.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to doctor’s orders.
  • Perform diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Perform administrative duties, such as filing, copying, and faxing.
  • Clean and sterilize exam rooms according to health department guidelines.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Certified Medical Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Perform functional assessments and document patient histories, conditions, and problems, and relay this information to appropriate parties.
  • Perform clinical and administrative tasks, including taking vital signs, preparing patients for examination, handling medical instruments, and preparing and dispensing medicine and medication.
  • Perform medical laboratory tests, such as performing EKGs, urine analysis, and blood tests
  • Perform administrative duties, such as scheduling appointments, preparing reports, and answering incoming phone calls.
  • Perform clerical duties, such as data entry and scheduling.
  • Assist with data entry and clerical tasks as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.
