Certified Medication Aide Job Description

A certified medication aide (or CNA) is a person, trained to administer medication in a supervised healthcare facility.

CNAs may also be called certified nursing assistants (CNAs), or certified nurse assistants (CNAs).

Certified nurse aides provide basic care such as bathing, grooming, and companionship to patients in nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, hospitals, and hospices.

They also assist in administering medication, performing diagnostic tests, changing bed linens, and Foley exams for patients who need urinary incontinence treatment.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for Certified Medication Aide to join our team and help us provide excellent care to our patients.

Certified Medication Aide Duties:

• Maintain proper medication administration procedures, as well as sanitation and safety practices
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with residents
• Develop and maintain consistent and accurate documentation
• Provide proper training for new employees
• Conduct a background check on all new employees

Certified Medication Aide Responsibilities:

• Assist patients with mobility and activities of daily living, which includes bathing, grooming, dressing, feeding, and ambulation
• Perform basic nursing duties, such as blood pressure checks, blood glucose levels, and administering medications as directed by a licensed nurse
• Provide medication according to clients’ needs and documents all interactions in patient’s complete medical record
• Screen clients for referrals to interpreters
• Maintain patient charts, update records to reflect activities or medical changes, and record discharge instructions
• Perform light housekeeping duties as needed

Requirements And Skills:

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid Michigan CNA license
• Experience in long-term care, psychiatric, or rehabilitative settings
• Knowledge of medications, dosages, and administration is a plus
• Excellent communication and computer skills
