A chemical operator’s primary responsibility is to package, mix, and dispense chemicals in a laboratory setting.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Chemical Operator to work in our laboratory. The ideal candidate will have experience working with chemicals and be able to operate our equipment.

Chemical Operator Duties:

  • Ensure that all chemical processes are in compliance with safety guidelines
  • Learn and understand product formulas and properties
  • Establish chemical baselines, perform daily chemical analysis, monitor product shelf life
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, report any chemical spills or leaks to proper authorities
  • Perform daily inventory control

Chemical Operator Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily maintenance and routine safety checks on chemical dosing equipment and instrumentation, including electronic meters, pressure gauges, and pH meters
  • Record data on chemical inventory, including chemical use per batch
  • Prepare chemicals for batching, including cleaning, filling, and packaging
  • Fill chemical tanks with chemicals, such as acid, caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, and muriatic acid
  • Perform daily chemical mixing operations
  • Monitor pumps, valves, and instrumentation, and troubleshoot malfunctions as needed
  • Maintain chemical inventory records
  • Transfer chemicals from customer tank to chemical tanks
  • Clean and sterilize tanks and lines
  • Sweep floors
  • Install chemical metering devices
  • Monitor and maintain chemical mixing pumps
  • Maintain chemical transfer systems
  • Monitor and maintain instrumentation
  • Train new employees

Requirements And Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a chemical plant
  • Minimum of 1 year as a Chemical Operator
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, process, engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of safety procedures
  • Knowledge of basic chemical terminology
