Chemical Technician Duties:

  • Stock, maintain, and make chemical and additive mixtures for specialized and high-performance products
  • Operate and maintain a range of lab equipment, including spectrometers, chromatographs, and liquid-chemistry equipment
  • Develop new chemical processes and compounds
  • Procure chemicals and raw materials from suppliers when needed
  • Assemble, test, and calibrate various products
  • Create reports and analyses as needed

Chemical Technician Responsibilities:

  • Perform preliminary analyses and safety studies for risks associated with chemical processes, such as storage, handling, and disposal of chemical products
  • Develop safety procedures for handling, storing, and disposing of chemicals and related equipment
  • Measure and document the performance of chemical process equipment, write operational procedures, and make recommendations
  • Communicate with safety personnel as well as vendors, customers, and other personnel
  • Train junior personnel on existing and new procedures
  • Use test equipment, such as sampling, weighing, and analytical instrumentation and methods
  • Use computer-aided drafting software to develop process diagrams and drawings
  • Understand, apply, and advise customers on EPA, OSHA, and other environmental regulations
  • Responsibly manage all aspects of the chemical process, including operating and maintaining chemical plant equipment, performing chemical process analysis and testing, preparing process flow charts, and producing process reports

Requirements And Skills:

  • Technician or degree in a chemistry or closely related field
  • 2-5 years experience as a chemical technician or in related area
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
