A Child Care Specialist is a person who provides direct care to children and is responsible for implementing lesson plans and supervising the children in their care.

A Child Care Specialist is in charge of children’s day to day activities, which include feeding the children, providing a safe environment for the children to play, and physically changing diapers and washing the children’s clothes.

A Child Care Specialist also works with parents and organizes the daily activities of the children in their care.

Child Care Specialist Duties:

  • Oversee operations of child care facilities
  • Establish childcare programs and schedules
  • Develop employee training
  • Identify and recruit qualified teachers and staff
  • Review and investigate childcare concerns, investigate accidents, and respond to complaints
  • Manage and implement health and safety standards
  • Develop staff training and development programs
  • Identify and implement new childcare programs
  • Provide support and consultation to the staff and parents

Child Care Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Provide child care, supervision, and support to children ages 2 to 12 enrolled in programs
  • Work closely with the program director and instructors to ensure that children and instructors are safe, happy, and well cared for
  • Supervise children during all program activities, including field trips, art, acting, drama, music, gym, cooking, and group games
  • Maintain record-keeping and inventory records for supplies and materials, and ensure registers are filled and billing is accurately processed
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for children and staff, and ensure that all equipment and supplies are in good working order
  • Prepare letters, reports, and correspondence as needed
  • Protect the confidentiality of clients’ personal information and keep accurate records of all transactions
  • Perform other child care-related duties as requested by the program director

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years experience in child care
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to identify educational and developmental needs of children
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with parents, staff, and other child care professionals
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of early childhood curriculum
