Child Psychologist Job Description

Child psychologist is a person who provides psychological counseling services to children.

Child psychologists use various techniques to help children deal with emotional, social, and behavioral problems.

Common methods used by child psychologists include play therapy, individual psychotherapy, and biofeedback.

Child psychologists are trained in diagnosing and treating childhood disorders.

Some common childhood disorders are Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), ADHD, Learning Disabilities (LD), and Autism.

Child psychologists work in a variety of settings.

Child Psychologist Duties:

• Actively participate in regular meetings with other psychologists
• Design and conduct psychological assessments with patients
• Develop treatment plans for patients
• Communicate with the families of patients, outlining treatment plans, assessments, and treatment plans
• Assist patients to effectively communicate their needs
• Oversee patient’s progress during treatment
• Laboratory duties

Child Psychologist Responsibilities:

• Evaluate, diagnose, and treat pediatric and adolescent patients in a treatment setting
• Perform systematic evaluations of patients, providing diagnosis and a treatment plan
• Perform psychological testing, and administer and evaluate psychological treatments, using appropriate psychological theory, techniques, and procedures
• Assist and counsel families in solving problems and making decisions related to self-care and adaptation
• Contribute to interdisciplinary teams, evaluate efficacy of treatment approaches, and collaborate with other professionals
• Monitor the progress of patients on treatment
• Review treatment plans and initiate changes individually or as a team
• Discuss patient progress with the patient’s family, other mental health professionals, and the patient
• Create and administer psychological tests
• Create and implement treatment plans
• Communicate with families, caregivers, and other professionals
• Plan and conduct seminars, group meetings, and special events
• Perform administrative duties

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years’ related experience
• Knowledge of developmental psychology, educational psychology and specific psychological methods
• Strong analytical and diagnostic skills
• Knowledge of assessment and evaluation procedures
