Cinematographer Job Description

A cinematographer is a person who makes films and videos.

Often referred to as a director of photography (dp), a cinematographer controls all technical aspects of a film or video production.

The cinematographer works closely with the director, the other members of the cast and crew, and often with the editor, to ensure the image captured in the final film or video matches the artistic vision of the director.

At a basic level, a cinematographer is the person who shoots the video or film.

The basic role of a cinematographer is to capture the image on film or video, and to supply those images to the editor along with notes about the look and lighting of the scene.
