A construction accountant prepares financial statements, monitors costs and budgets, and works with project managers and associates to ensure that the company’s financial needs are met.

A construction accountant works as part of the accounting department, which is responsible for producing financial reports and analyses.

Construction accountants may also assist with payroll, which is a form of accounting.

Payroll records employee salaries, taxes, and other payroll expenses.

Construction accountants also keep company records, such as balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow statements.

Job Brief:

We're looking for a Construction Accountant to join our team! As a Construction Accountant, you will be responsible for managing construction costs, preparing financial reports, and overseeing construction projects from start to finish. If you are a detail-oriented individual with a background in accounting and a passion for construction, we want to hear from you!

Construction Accountant Duties:

  • Review project bids and estimates to ensure accurate price quotes and project scheduling
  • Prepare and reconcile daily, weekly, and monthly reports and statements
  • Prepare and file tax reports
  • Control inventory, purchasing, and disposal of supplies
  • Maintain all financial records including accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Prepare and manage billings

Construction Accountant Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and track all costs related to construction projects
  • Review contractors' bills for accuracy and completeness, and approve payment requests
  • Process invoices, requisitions, and purchase orders
  • Review, approve, and process payroll, expense reports, and time cards
  • Research and resolve invoice and billing disputes with contractors
  • Audit all accounts against contractual terms, budgets, and time schedules
  • Review and approve vendor invoices and subcontractor bills
  • Maintain files on general ledger, assets, and mills
  • Maintain files on contracts, warranties, insurance policies
  • Prepare reports as necessary

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration with concentration in accounting
  • 2+ years accounting experience in construction or real estate development
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting, including cost controls, job costing, and profit and loss accounting
  • Ability to understand complex billing and job costing concepts
