Correctional Treatment Specialists (CTSs) are mental health professionals who work with inmates in correctional facilities.

CTSs typically work under the supervision of a correctional mental health professional or correctional administrator.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for Correctional Treatment Specialist to work with inmates in a jail or prison. The duties of a Correctional Treatment Specialist include developing and administering treatment programs, providing individual and group counseling, and conducting risk assessments.

Correctional Treatment Specialist Duties:

  • Identify and correct offender behavioral issues.
  • Provide individual treatment for offenders with mental health, substance abuse, and serious behavioral problems.
  • Improve offenders’ quality of life by implementing programs designed to reduce recidivism and to increase rehabilitative skills and employment skills.
  • Work with treatment teams to establish an effective treatment plan for offenders with serious behavioral issues

Correctional Treatment Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that patients receive appropriate services in an appropriate setting, including documentation of patient encounters in required systems
  • Attends in-services, and completes necessary documentation to demonstrate compliance with agency policies
  • Monitors inmate behavior and safety, and implements intervention strategies as needed
  • Participates in patient discharge planning
  • Participates in referral activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling or related field
  • Knowledge of mental health and substance abuse treatment methods and principles of rehabilitation
  • Knowledge of correctional programs and practices
  • Knowledge of inmate issues and behaviour
  • Ability to comprehend inmate documents and be able to communicate clearly with both staff and inmates
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
