Cost estimators determine costs, usually of construction projects, to determine the actual cost of the goods or services involved.

Cost estimators use outside resources such as design plans and blueprints, and use bids from subcontractors to estimate the labor, materials, and overhead costs.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Cost Estimator to join our team and help us provide accurate estimates for our clients’ projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction industry and a strong understanding of the factors that affect the cost of a project. Cost Estimator Duties:

  • Prepare accurate estimates and subcontract budgets based on projects’ requirements and specifications
  • Use job costing methods to accurately track project costs and expenditures
  • Review and finalize subcontractor estimates and budgets
  • Train junior estimators
  • Develop preconstruction bid strategies
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, and estimating
  • Ensure projects are profitable while maintaining adherence to budgets
  • Prepare bid packages

Cost Estimator Responsibilities:

  • Prepare cost estimates for all phases of a project and assist in negotiations
  • Estimate and evaluate project timelines to determine feasibility of project
  • Research current market conditions, market conditions, and trends and assist in the selection of materials and equipment
  • Create and maintain a database of suppliers and subcontractors, and assist in hiring

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field
  • 3+ years experience in estimating costs on construction projects
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Knowledge of construction methods and technologies
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a constant eye on quality
  • Knowledge of jobsite safety practices
