A court clerk is an officer or employee of a court, usually a justice of the peace or municipal judge, who is responsible for the scheduling and conduct of legal procedures; maintaining records; and maintaining the court's docket.

A court clerk may be responsible for recording and filing pleadings; maintaining records of the court proceedings; tracking court dates; handling bail bonds; and handling other miscellaneous court-related tasks.

Court clerks often interact with attorneys and members of the public.

In some jurisdictions, court clerks may first work for a judge or magistrate.

Job Brief:

We're looking for Court Clerk to join our team. As a Court Clerk, you will provide clerical and administrative support to the court. You will be responsible for maintaining court records, scheduling hearings, and preparing documents for court proceedings. Court Clerk Duties:

  • Maintain accurate, current, and standardized records of all court documents, documents of criminal, civil, or juvenile nature, and court records
  • Document evidence in accordance with departmental and court regulations
  • Process court transactions, applying legal standards to procedures
  • Maintain files and other records
  • Schedule court dates, courtrooms, and procedures
  • Process warrants, subpoenas, and other legal documents
  • Coordinate and oversee filing system
  • Answer phone calls and process paperwork
  • Insure other clerical duties, as needed

Court Clerk Responsibilities:

  • Assist attorneys with legal research, drafting briefs, and completing legal documents
  • Establish and maintain appropriate filing systems, including electronic filing systems
  • Establish and maintain written policies and procedures for all personnel to follow regarding security and confidentiality
  • Assist attorneys in preparing for and conducting depositions, interviews, and hearings
  • Prepare contract documents, such as letters, memoranda, and contracts
  • Receive, maintain, and disburse funds and other financial materials
  • Maintain records and reports required by law, including tax and accounting records
  • Maintain custody and safekeeping of all client funds
  • Provide clerical support, including answering phones and screening calls
