Dental Assistant Job Description

A dental assistant is a person who performs administrative, technical, and clinical duties that allow dentists to provide quality dental care.

Dental assistants often work under the supervision of a dentist or dental hygienist.

The tasks a dental assistant performs vary depending on the dentist’s office.

Some dental assistants perform basic office functions such as scheduling appointments, preparing patients for dental procedures, and handling billing information.

Other dental assistants take on more hands-on tasks, such as passing instruments to a dental hygienist, preparing and maintaining dental instruments and materials, and taking x-rays.

A dental assistant also performs clinical tasks, such as cleaning and polishing teeth, removing tartar and plaque.
