Director of Operations Job Description

The director of operations is accountable for all warehouse operations within a facility.

The director will be the key person responsible for controlling the day-to-day operation of the warehouse and ensuring that all employees are following standard operating procedures (SOPs).

They are responsible for supervising the warehouse team and delegating tasks to managers.

Additionally, they are responsible for hiring and training new employees.

When a new warehouse or distribution center is opened, the director of operations acts as the training manager and ensures that all new employees receive training and safety orientation.

The director of operations ensures that all warehouse employees are compliant with health and safety codes and regulations.

  • Support all operations managers and supervisors with scheduling, hiring, training, performance feedback, and reference checks.
  • Integrate and modify best practices into existing processes to support growth.
  • Create and enact operational policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Train operations employees on company policies, and partner with HR on training and development for hourly employees.
  • Maintain budgets for operational expenses.
  • Execute operations strategy for acquired business.
