An electrical technician specializes in performing electrical maintenance, repair, and installation.

An electrical technician can operate and maintain electrical equipment including lighting systems, motors, wiring, and generators.

An electrical technician may reach into dark spaces to perform maintenance or install bulbs or perform maintenance work under ladders.

They may also be required to work in outdoor environments such as at job sites.

Electrical technicians must be able to read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams, and understand the use of tools and measuring instruments.

Electrical Technician Responsibilities:

  • Maintain electrical distribution, control, and motor systems; repair faulty wiring, and replace equipment as needed
  • Install and mount electrical equipment, including conduit, subpanels, transformers, circuit breakers, wiring, and outlet boxes
  • Maintain job site safety and ensure that employees follow OSHA safety standards
  • Perform other related duties as needed

Requirements And Skills:

  • Electrical journeyman license
  • 2+ years electrical experience
  • Knowledge of electrical theory and installation techniques
  • Knowledge and understanding of national electrical code
  • Understanding of commercial and industrial electrical equipment
  • Understanding of electrical systems and components
  • Knowledge of power distribution, grounding and grounding techniques
