An emergency management specialist is a person who coordinates emergency management efforts, such as evacuations, rescue operations, and disaster response.

They coordinate between local, state, and federal agencies to strategize disaster response plans.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for an Emergency Management Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in emergency management, disaster response, and emergency preparedness. They will be responsible for developing and implementing emergency management plans and procedures, coordinating with local and state emergency management agencies, and assisting in the development of disaster response plans.

Emergency Management Specialist Duties:

  • Prepare action plans for potential emergency situations
  • Prepare documentation, exercises, and training programs on disaster prevention
  • Recognize potential environmental/respiratory hazards
  • Recognize potential health hazards
  • Recognize potential electrical, fire/explosion, chemical, biological/infectious, transportation, legal/regulatory, security, computer/data,  mental health, stress, psychosocial hazards

Emergency Management Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Oversee requests for emergency assistance, coordinate emergency responses with local public safety officials, and assist other team members with administrative tasks
  • Research and compile literature on local emergency planning efforts and procedures, make presentations to local officials, and assist in emergency drills and
  • exercises
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and laws, and with risk management and loss prevention
  • Develop and maintain risk reports, including calculation of insurance reserves

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s in emergency management, public administration, or a related field
  • 2+ years’ experience in the field of emergency management or public safety
  • Knowledge of emergency management plans and processes, and knowledge of local emergency operations center operations
  • Ability to perform complex emergency management functions
  • Strong communication skills, including public speaking
