Examiner Job Description

The examiner is the employee who conducts federal tax examinations of local, state, and federal tax returns.

Examiners are responsible for auditing tax returns to ensure all transactions subject to tax are reported properly and correctly.

The examiner is also responsible for determining if a taxpayer is liable for additional tax, penalties, and interest.

Examiner Duties:

  • Organize and plan testing, inspections, and reviews
  • Perform field visits to observed installations to help ensure that the installed systems conform to the design intent and all applicable codes and standards
  • Conduct quality control inspections of installation work
  • Identify and correct deficiencies, both minor and major, in installations
  • Advise professional firms on project specifications, materials, and construction methods
  • Develops project specifications, scope of work, and schedules
  • Track and analyze project progress
  • Create reports tracking past and current projects
  • Identify problems and discrepancies in drawings and specifications
  • Review contractor work

Examiner Responsibilities:

  • Perform operational audits and inspections of a qualified maintenance or MRO facility, such as a warehouse, storage facility, and/or repair facility
  • Conduct safety inspections of premises, equipment, and personnel
  • Investigate possible sources of theft, damage, or noncompliance issues
  • Perform root cause analyses to identify issues and develop corrective action plans
  • Develop and maintain written reports on audit findings and corrective action plans
  • Coordinate investigation results with the appropriate parties
  • Correct noncompliance issues, and document actions
  • Train personnel on the correct procedures and practices
  • Perform compliance audits on commercial aircraft, helicopters, and aircraft engines

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field
  • 2+ years experience in construction inspection or engineering
  • Experience identifying construction problems, and recommending and reviewing solutions for them
  • Knowledge of construction methods and technologies, and ability to interpret technical drawings and contracts
  • Knowledge of building code requirements
