A facilities manager is the individual who manages a company’s property, such as buildings, grounds, and facilities.

A facilities manager’s responsibilities include overseeing maintenance, security, and janitorial services.

Facilities managers can have direct responsibilities for any number of property areas, such as equipment, rest stops, or factories.

Some facilities managers are responsible for an entire city or county’s properties.

Facilities managers work indoors and out.

They oversee the building of single buildings or entire complexes.

Their duties may also include overseeing property such as roads, parks, libraries, and recreational facilities.

Job Brief:

We're looking for a Facilities Manager to lead our team in creating a safe and comfortable work environment for our employees. The Facilities Manager will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance of our buildings and grounds, as well as coordinating the work of our custodial and janitorial staff. Facilities Manager Duties:

  • Coordinate and oversee all building maintenance activities
  • Coordinate service and repairs
  • Ensure that all building systems are working and functioning correctly
  • Oversee staff to ensure optimal building conditions
  • Oversee all indoor environmental quality (IEQ) protocols, including indoor temperature, humidity, air quality, lighting, ventilation, and noise
  • Achieve tenant satisfaction by maintaining and improving building services
  • Maintain regular communication with tenants to assess their needs
  • Maintain building service standards

Facilities Manager Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the facilities of a growing service company
  • Manage office equipment and facilities, including electrical, plumbing, heating, lighting, HVAC, and security systems
  • Maintain inventory, including supplies, furniture, and fixtures
  • Perform preventative maintenance, and oversee landscaping and snow removal
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
  • Oversee employee workstations, ensuring equipment, furnishings, and work area are clean, safe, and up to company standards
  • Provide training, and coaching to lower level employees
  • Develop and maintain communication system and training manuals
  • Conduct audits and research data to identify, correct, and document problems
  • Develop, maintain, and update a five-year plan for facility improvements

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • 2+ years experience in facility management
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, operations, and techniques
  • Excellent knowledge of building code requirements
  • Strong understanding of how building systems work and problems that can occur
  • Knowledge and experience in preventive maintenance
