Financial Counselor Job Description

A financial counselor is a person who provides financial advice to clients, either in a one-on-one situation or a professional setting.

Financial counselors expect their clients to be educated on the purpose of financial advice, and the financial counselor should have in-depth knowledge of the financial, legal, and social aspects of their clients.

Financial counselors must be understanding of their clients' emotional drivers, and they must design strategies that take into account their clients’ cultures, beliefs, and attitudes about money.

Financial counselors typically meet clients in person, over the phone, and online.

They typically work in private practice, but many financial counselors work in banking, insurance, and investment firms.
