Flagger Job Description

A flagger is a traffic official who directs traffic along roads.

Flaggers hold orange or yellow vests and wear long pants, a jacket, and boots.

Flaggers are usually employed by local governments or public service agencies.

In some cases, a municipal police department may employ a flagger, but in most places, the responsibility for directing traffic is taken by a state, federal government, or regional transportation authority.

Flaggers may direct traffic from a fixed location or from a vehicle.

The location of flaggers will vary based on the type of road and the severity and frequency of traffic.
