Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Genetic Counselor to provide information and support to people who are affected by, or at risk of, genetic disorders. The Genetic Counselor will work with individuals and families to discuss the risks and implications of genetic disorders, and provide information and support to help them make informed decisions.

Genetic Counselor Duties:

  • Analyze and interpret genetic test results
  • Develop individualized treatment plans
  • Providing education to patients and their families
  • Documenting patient’s medical history
  • Communicating with physicians, patients, and other healthcare providers
  • Identifying medical risks
  • Preparing reports, proposals, and presentations

Genetic Counselor Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients, families, physicians, and providers by sharing knowledge of genetic conditions, testing, and results
  • Provide education about genetic conditions, genetic counseling, genetic testing, and related health issues to patients and families, as well as physicians and providers
  • Assist in the development and implementation of patient and family educational materials
  • Perform consultative counseling in clinical settings when appropriate
  • Assist in the recruitment of candidates for genetic counseling positions
  • Maintain and update electronic medical record
  • Conduct outreach and education to community and professional organizations
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with community physicians, hospitals, and clinics
  • Maintain appropriate records, reports, and data
  • Perform other job duties as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in genetics, biological science, or a related field
  • 2+ years’ genetic counseling experience
  • Demonstrated ability to explain complex concepts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
