Health System Specialist Job Description

A health system specialist is an individual whose advanced knowledge of and experience with health care systems (primarily hospitals) allows them to make recommendations to the hospital’s administration, management, medical staff, and/or administrators on issues that affect the health care system.

A health system specialist reports to a director (or other higher level management) in a hospital’s administration.

They are typically recruited from another profession, such as a physician, nurse, administrator, or physician assistant.

The health system specialist could report to the vice president, chief, or director of the hospital’s administration.

The health system specialist works closely with the medical staff and administration to help the hospital improvement.

Health System Specialist Duties:

  • Investigate and troubleshoot problems within the healthcare system.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with providers, providers, and suppliers.
  • Provide administrative and technical support to the physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Help identify and access healthcare opportunities, such as new partnerships, new products, and other technological developments.
  • Increase awareness of new products and providers.
  • Manage special projects or assignments.

Health System Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update thousands of records about healthcare, insurance, and billing in both electronic and paper formats.
  • Assist consultants and customers with insurance quotes, billing issues, and coverage inquiries.
  • Process audits and claims, and communicate with insurance providers to resolve issues.
  • Create and distribute reports and correspondence.
  • Analyze, create, and apply healthcare consumer trends.
  • Oversee and process medical coding.
  • Operate email accounts, calendars, task lists, and databases.
  • Research, write, edit, and produce business correspondence.
  • Perform data entry, create spreadsheets, and compile reports.
  • Communicate with and advise internal and external customers.
