Healthcare assistants, also known as heath care aides, work in varied healthcare settings, such as in hospitals, nursing homes, and schools, to assist patients with activities of daily living and other tasks, such as serving food and beverages and assisting with toileting.

Some healthcare assistants also prepare patients’ rooms for care.

Healthcare assistants work with patients of all ages, from young children to the elderly.

Some duties also involve interacting with families or visitors.

Healthcare assistants also assist in the delivery of patient care and preparation, including preparing patients for examinations, delivering prescribed treatments, and collecting and disposing of trash.

They may also bathe patients, clean medical equipment

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Healthcare Assistant to provide support to patients in a hospital setting. The ideal candidate will be compassionate and able to provide excellent customer service.

Healthcare Assistant Duties:

  • Provide a safe and friendly environment for patients and visitors by maintaining standards and procedures, and by complying with policies and protocols
  • Perform all duties in adherence to standards of sanitation, safety, and infection control
  • Ensure that all equipment, instruments, and supplies are handled and stored in accordance with regulatory standards
  • Perform duties in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including OSHA, MSHA, and HIPAA
  • Ensure that patient needs, comfort, dignity, and confidentiality are being addressed at all times
  • Monitor patients to assure they are following all instructions from the healthcare providers
  • Provide excellent customer service and care to all clients
  • Gather, compile, and analyze patient information to write accurate and timely medical records
  • Work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal care and service
  • Perform record keeping tasks using electronic and clinical software programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Healthcare Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Perform clerical duties, including answering phones, receiving patients and visitors, scheduling appointments, and updating patient records
  • Assist physicians during office visits, including drawing blood, giving injections, and recording information
  • Prepare and maintain rooms for exams, treatments, and other medical procedures
  • Clean exam rooms, patient rooms, and waiting areas
  • Maintain medical records, including updating patient charts, generating billing reports, and resolving discrepancies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

  • Proven experience in a healthcare setting
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Proven computer literacy, including knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to perform administrative, clerical, and customer service tasks
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks
