A hepatologist is a medical specialist who focuses on diseases related to the liver, such as hepatitis B and C.

A hepatologist performs liver biopsies, liver-associated surgery, and liver testing.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Hepatologist to join our team and help us provide the best possible care for our patients.

Hepatologist Duties:

  • Performs general hepatology diagnostic services including ultrasound, liver biopsy, and endoscopy
  • Provides consultation and performs procedures on patient that are referred and scheduled by the attending physician
  • Manages injecting physician’s patients
  • Performs various administrative services such as scheduling and completing all necessary paperwork
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Hepatologist Responsibilities:

  • Current and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the states of California and Idaho
  • Familiarity with UCSF medical library and staff and electronic resources
  • Knowledge of UCSF Medical Center and Mission Bay campus; ability to work in diverse/multicultural settings; demonstrated skills in managing multiple projects simultaneously

Requirements And Skills:

  • Perform diagnostic and consultative services, including physical exams, diagnostic procedures, and laboratory testing
  • Recommend therapeutic interventions, including medication regimens and management, nutritional plans, and surgical interventions
  • Train residents and medical students
  • Clean and sterilize examination rooms; prepare and/or sterilize surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment; fill out forms and record patient information
  • Perform medical procedures, such as biopsies, liver biopsies, needle biopsies, monitoring, and diagnostic procedures; perform ultrasounds, MRIs, CTs, and arterial and venous catheterizations
  • Maintain patient records, attend medical conferences, and conduct research
