Hotel Front Desk Job Description

The hotel front desk is the point of first contact between a hotel's visitors and the hotel staff.

The hotel receptionist is typically the first person to greet new guests, and they are responsible for checking guests in and out of their rooms.

Hotels may also have a second staff person at the front desk.

While some front desk staff may be responsible for answering a guest's telephone, this task may be delegated to a switchboard operator, who may not be hotel employees.

Hotel front desk staff may also be responsible for notifying guests when housekeeping is done with their room.

Job Brief

We're looking for a Hotel Front Desk Clerk to provide excellent customer service to our guests. The ideal candidate will be friendly, outgoing, and have experience working in a hotel.

Hotel Front Desk Duties

  • Ensure all guests receive prompt and professional services in an efficient and friendly manner
  • Answer all incoming telephone calls
  • Assist guest request with accurate information and follow through
  • Handle guest problems and complaints
  • Recommend upgrades, amenities, and services to guests
  • Conduct inspections of guest rooms and assist with cleaning of guest rooms
  • Assist guests with directions, maps, and information about local area attractions
  • Operate public address and telephone systems
  • Perform all opening and closing procedures
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

Hotel Front Desk Responsibilities:

  • Interview customers to determine their needs and requests; provide information, directions, and services to guests; and process payments, using POS systems
  • Assist guests with check-in, check-out, room requests, and other requests using POS systems
  • Ensure area is clean and organized
  • Maintain high standards of excellence and professionalism
  • Assist guests with baggage
  • Assist guests with connecting flights
  • Take reservations over the phone or via email
  • Provide information about hotel facilities and amenities
  • Provide concierge services
  • Provide information about local activities and attractions
