HR Generalist Job Description

A generalist is someone who is an expert in a wide range of topics.

While a generalist cannot know everything about everything, they are capable of performing many different tasks.

This is in contrast to specialists, who are experts or “specialists” in one specific field.

HR generalists, for example, can apply knowledge of hiring, firing, training, and employee relations to many different circumstances.

In short, generalists are jacks-of-all-trades and masters of none.

They possess both broad and narrow knowledge.
