Immigration Paralegal Job Description

A paralegal specializes in immigration law and practices.

Immigration law is federal law but each state has jurisdiction over immigration issues within its borders.

The immigration paralegal's practice area varies by state, but most states allow immigration paralegals or attorneys to assist clients with applications for naturalization, work visas, green cards, visas for family members, and citizenship.

Immigration paralegals may also assist clients with temporary work visas and applications for asylum or other humanitarian relief.

Paralegals can work in a variety of settings such as law firms, government agencies, and corporations.

Immigration lawyers who specialize in immigration law work together with paralegals.
