An Inventory Specialist is a job role that specializes in the accurate recording and reporting of inventory, inventory costing and inventory cycle counts.

Successful Inventory Specialists have a combination of education and experience that qualifies them to perform inventory cycle counts, ship inventory, enter inventory transactions into accounting systems, calculate inventory costs, and order inventory.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for an Inventory Specialist who can help us keep track of our inventory and make sure that we always have the products that our customers need.

Inventory Specialist Duties:

  • Generate inventory reports with inventory quantities and dollar values for each vendor
  • Analyze operating costs and profit margins
  • Manage and oversee inventory levels by forecasting and ordering
  • Create and maintain systems, standard operating procedures, and policies that ensure the efficient and economical operation of the business
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory and inventory transactions
  • Supervise inventory activities and staff
  • Recommend inventory control policies, methods, or techniques as needed
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels
  • Direct the purchasing or purchasing supervisor

Inventory Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and accurate records of all inventories in storage area; keep accurate records of product movement and supply inventory, and report discrepancies immediately
  • Order, track, and make sure product is properly received
  • Maintain and update product records with accurate weights, measurements, and descriptions
  • Take responsibility for receiving, storing, shipping, and receiving/tracking of incoming shipments
  • Perform all receiving, storage, and shipping tasks in an efficient and professional manner
  • Provide technical support and assistance to other team members

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, or related field
  • 2+ years experience in an inventory control role
  • Excellent knowledge of inventory control methods and practices
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to control inventory using automated systems
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems
