A jeweler is someone who designs and makes jewelry, often on commission from clients.

Many jewelers focus on custom designs for their clients, but may specialize in certain types of jewelry, such as fine jewelry (consisting of gold, silver, and gemstones), costume jewelry (consisting mostly of inexpensive materials, such as plastic resin, imitation gemstones, or metal), or jewelry repairs.

Some jewelers specialize in selling jewelry such as charms or beads.

Jeweler Duties:

  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and friendly environment in showroom
  • Outsource the selling of jewelry and watches to qualified sales staff
  • Research and develop unique sales strategies
  • Stock and maintain all inventory
  • Maintain and store inventory according to company procedures
  • Create displays for jewelry store
  • Build and maintain relationships with both existing and new customers
  • Maintain a professional image both in person and through social media

Jeweler Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily full cycle jewelry repair including stone setting, ring sizing, watch battery replacements, watch band adjustments, watch face replacements, and jewelry cleaning
  • Provide exceptional customer service by answering phones, taking orders, and providing estimates
  • Open and close store and perform basic administrative tasks
  • Deliver high quality customer service at all times, while completing tasks within designated deadlines
  • Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained
  • Hire, train, and manage staff
  • Track sales, inventory, and employee performance
  • Enforce company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment
  • Other duties as assigned
