A learning designer is an individual who works specifically on the design of learning experiences.

These individuals focus on the process used to develop learning content, as well as the design function, in which they develop learning content, facilitate, and assess learning.

Learning designers most commonly have backgrounds in instructional design or learning design.

However, a learning designer is not required to have a background in either field, and these roles often overlap.

Learning designers are sometimes referred to as instructional designers (ID).

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Learning Designer who can help us create engaging and effective learning experiences for our employees. The ideal candidate will have experience in instructional design, adult learning theory, and eLearning development tools and platforms. Learning Designer Duties:

  • Analyze training needs based on company objectives, optimize training systems, create actionable development plans, design, develop, and deliver training courses
  • Assist with training documentation, assessment, and development
  • -Develop training plans, support critical training initiatives, and ensure training plans are aligned with business objectives
  • Assist with training needs assessments and needs analysis
  • Provide feedback and evaluation processes
  • Collaborate with internal customers to identify and implement solutions for training needs
  • Develop course outlines, develop course content, write and edit literature and documentation
  • Liaise with IT, L&D, and HR departments to identify training needs
  • Review, critique, and maintain instructional design standards and policies
  • Identify, recommend, and evaluate instructional technology tools to support learning initiatives
  • Identify, recommend, and evaluate instructional technology tools to support learning initiatives

Learning Designer Responsibilities:

  • Create design, develop learning solutions, design learning events, lead design, and consult on training and organizational development
  • Analyze learning needs, business objectives, and company culture, and propose solutions, which includes the creation of learning plans, program development, assessment, and content creation
  • Design web-enabled, virtual, and in-person learning solutions, including blended learning
  • Perform research, assess performance, and develop instructional strategies
  • Design and conduct training sessions, workshops, and seminars, and oversee quality
  • Coordinate with Information Services to design, develop, and maintain learning management systems
  • Advise on learning issues, including instructional design, training methodology, evaluation, and process improvement
  • Develop, implement, and manage learning solutions, including:
  • o-learning environments (LMS, virtual, or in-person)

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a learning design related field
  • 3+ years experience developing learning initiatives
  • Experience designing for both online and face-to-face environments
  • Experience with instructional design, e-learning materials development, and curriculum design
  • Experience with web design
