Mail Clerk Duties:

  • Receive and process incoming mail
  • Sort and distribute mail according to department and organizational policies
  • Process outgoing mail as needed

Mail Clerk Responsibilities:

  • Previous experience in a mailroom environment
  • Ability to drive forklift or pallet jack a plus
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Mobility to lift and bend regularly required
  • Strong work ethic required

Requirements And Skills:

  • Maintaining postal documentation, and assisting the Postmaster General and agency employees in the performance of their duties
  • Maintaining postal materials, by disposing of unneeded materials, and ensuring that mail and packages are not damaged
  • Maintaining postal facilities, by repairing and replacing materials and parts, and cleaning facilities
  • Maintaining postal equipment, by replacing worn parts, and conducting preventive maintenance on equipment
  • Helping customers with the selection and purchase of postal materials
  • Maintaining and using postal equipment, including stamps, boxes, and envelopes
  • Assisting customers with inquiries and complaints regarding the postal service
  • Performing other appropriate duties as assigned
