Marine Service Technicians (MST) are members of the seagoing engineering community who primarily work aboard merchant ships.

MSTs are also sometimes referred to as marine engineers or marine engineers officers.

The Marine Service Technician is responsible for a number of tasks, including maintaining shipboard engines, machinery, and electrical equipment.

They also participate in shipboard electrical testing and record-keeping, and inspect, lubricate, and repair ship’s engines.

Marine Service Technicians typically work at a marine service facility, where they follow specific safety protocols and are trained in on-the-job skills.

They are also responsible for conducting inspections and monitoring equipment.

We’re looking for a Marine Service Technician who is experienced in repairing and maintaining a variety of marine engines. Marine Service Technician Duties:

  • Perform duties related to maintenance and repair of marine vessels
  • Treat, test, diagnose, and repair mechanical and digital systems
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and routine inspections
  • Spare parts inventory, maintain and repair equipment and machinery
  • Follow specific guidelines, work instructions, and procedures
  • Identify and describe issues, recommend correction, and ensure follow-up
  • Maintain accurate records and provide reports
  • Identify problems, determine repair requirements, and develop and implement solutions
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and management
  • Recognize and report workplace hazards

Marine Service Technician Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily operational and maintenance activities on vessels, including dockside repairs, general maintenance and cleaning, and refueling
  • Ensure vessels comply with safety regulations, government requirements, and company standards
  • Manage and monitor preventative maintenance program
  • Assist with daily administrative and accounting functions, including data entry, expense reports, and recordkeeping
  • Maintain accurate inventories and records of equipment, tools, and supplies
  • Assist in investigations of equipment malfunctions
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 3 years’ marine service experience
  • Basic understanding of engines and electrical
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, lubrication systems, and marine electronics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper procedures for troubleshooting and repairing mechanical
