Mathematician Duties:

  • Develop and maintain mathematical models used in research, development, and applications of optimization techniques and procedures.

  • Analyze data and effectively use computer tools to assist with analysis.
  • Develop, manipulate, and analyze complex data sets and designs.
  • Perform statistical calculations.
  • Perform a variety of mathematical calculations.
  • Provide solutions to problems using optimization techniques.

Mathematician Responsibilities:

  • Use advanced mathematics to solve problems in theoretical and practical settings, such as engineering, economics, and business.
  • Maintain awareness of current developments in the field by reading scholarly and professional publications.
  • Identify appropriate mathematical models, data, and computational procedures to analyze data.
  • Develop and evaluate alternative solutions using mathematical techniques.
  • Use computer simulation software to predict, evaluate, or verify the performance of a mathematical model.
  • Use mathematical reasoning, analytical methods, and computational skills for problem-solving.
  • Formulate mathematical problems and explain their solutions in terms of a problem statement, its variables, and constraints.
  • Develop mathematical models for optimal allocation of resources, and/or equilibrium of supply and demand.
  • Generate, record, analyze, and communicate numerical data using computer software.
