Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Medical Office Assistant to help us keep our medical office running smoothly. This person will be responsible for a variety of tasks, from answering phones and scheduling appointments to handling insurance paperwork and coding medical records. The right candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment. If you have previous experience working in a medical office, we want to hear from you!

Medical Office Assistant Duties:

  • Accomplish administrative tasks for physicians, nurses, and other personnel
  • Provide administrative support
  • Assist with scheduling appointments
  • Manage patient records
  • Help physicians with insurance verification
  • Manage and update inventory
  • Understand HIPAA rules and regulations

Medical Office Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Performs administrative duties in a physician office, including scheduling appointments and insurance verification
  • Answers phones, transmits and receives messages, and schedules appointments, including dispatching emergency physician services
  • Schedules patient appointments and performs other clerical tasks, including renewing patient charts, ordering supplies, and answering billing questions
  • Records patient medical histories and vital signs, and enters information into computer records
  • Prepares reports, records, and correspondence, including completing medical charts, maintaining patient files, and updating insurance information
  • Analyzes and reconciles aging reports, monitors patient account balances, and reports discrepancies to supervisor
  • Recommends policies and procedures to improve efficiency and productivity
  • Reviews and responds to patient correspondence

Requirements And Skills:

  • 2+ years’ proven experience in an allied health or medical office setting
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent typing skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records
