A Medical Support Assistant (MSA) is an individual providing medical care to a nursing facility.

Medical Support Assistants are non-RN’s.

They have regular (or sometimes daily) medical care to (and/or) monitoring residents, feeding residents, and changing linens.

They do not, however, perform invasive procedures such as drawing blood, administering medications, or drawing urine.

Medical Support Assistants work under the supervision of Registered Nurses.

They are tasked with meeting residents’ physical and emotional needs and maintaining Mrs.

Jones’ bedding.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Medical Support Assistant to provide administrative and clerical support to the medical staff in our hospital. The Medical Support Assistant will perform a variety of duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, and billing insurance companies.

Medical Support Assistant Duties:

  • Provide support in the clinical and administrative aspects of nursing
  • Assist with administrative duties, including:
  • Making appointments
  • Maintaining patient files
  • Provides patient support at discharge
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Assist with patients’ everyday needs
  • Develop and maintain positive rapport with patients
  • Liaise with families, other service staff, donors, and physicians
  • Establishes and maintains capacity for patient and family education, counseling, social service referrals, and follow-up
  • Provides direct patient care through all phases of treatment
  • Establishes patient-provider relationships based on trust, respect, and compassion

Medical Support Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Current Medical Assistant certification
  • 2+ years’ experience as a Medical Assistant in a fast-paced medical office
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to interact with patients, staff, and physicians
  • Ability to provide quality patient care in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong customer service skills

Requirements And Skills:

  • Interview, hire, and train full-time and part-time medical assistants, as assigned, and provide ongoing supervision
  • Establish and maintain work schedules
  • Assist with patient scheduling and check-in
  • Perform administrative and clinical duties, including administering injections, drawing blood, phlebotomy, and routine laboratory tests, and answering telephones and filing
  • Remove sutures and staples
  • Assist with EKG testing and interpretation
  • Provide assistance to billing and insurance departments
  • Provide assistance to clinic nurses and physicians
  • Conduct and document quality assurance and safety inspections throughout the construction process, assuring working environment is maintained at acceptable levels, and tools and equipment are in good working condition
  • Maintain and update SOW and preconstruction documents, and monitor contract obligations with a goal of building relationships with reliable contractors and vendors
