Music Therapist Duties:

  • Provide music therapy services while working with individuals, families, groups, and/or populations
  • Assists patients, families, and caregivers in a variety of areas and settings
  • Incorporates therapeutic music interventions in treatment plans
  • Assists patients, families, and caregivers in a variety of areas and settings

Music Therapist Responsibilities:

  • Perform music therapy assessments, including direct observation of client behaviors, cognitive testing, and other assessments
  • Recognize the impact of cognitive, social, emotional, and physical challenges on clients’ participation in music activities; use knowledge of music therapy principles and techniques to capitalize on clients’ strengths and creative potential
  • Implement treatment interventions following music therapy standards, including individual and group music therapy sessions
  • Develop and maintain music therapy portfolios
  • Provide support to other team members, including fieldwork, testing, and report writing
  • Regularly evaluate client progress
  • Follow all occupational health and safety regulations, procedures, and policies
  • Use music therapy billing software and billing procedures to prepare and process claims
  • Calibrate musical equipment to ensure optimal performance
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients, families, team members, community agencies, schools, and other referral sources

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy or related field
  • Completion of a graduate degree program in Music Therapy
  • Current registration with MT-BC
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a music therapist
