NDT Technician Job Description

NDT stands for non-destructive testing, and it is one of the diagnostic testing methods used in engineering to inspect an object without destroying it.

NDT is the process of testing materials, structures, or systems without damaging or altering their physical or mechanical properties.

NDT technicians have extensive expertise in performing a variety of tests using different types of equipment.

NDT technicians work in a variety of environments.

While working in labs, they test materials in controlled environments, and field technicians may find themselves working outdoors, in all kinds of weather.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for an NDT Technician who is highly skilled and has experience working with a variety of materials. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and be able to troubleshoot any problems that may arise.

NDT Technician Duties:

  • Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) to determine potential defects
  • Perform material characterization and failure analysis
  • Perform radiographic examination and other non-destructive examinations
  • Use NDT equipment (e.g., handheld, eddy-current, ultrasonic)
  • Perform diagnostic examinations
  • Perform NDT calibrations
  • Perform NDT evaluation and inspection
  • Label and package parts
  • Understand inspection/test procedure to industry standards
  • Obtain and interpret inspection reports
  • Perform NDT testing (e.g., eddy-current, ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, fluorescent dye)
  • Perform NDT measurements (e.g., thickness, size, strength, density, coefficient of friction, porosity, metallography, chemical composition)

NDT Technician Responsibilities:

  • Follow and inspect all standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures
  • Understand and apply NDT method and techniques

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • 1-2 years’ proven experience in NDT
  • Knowledge and certification of ultrasonic equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local NDE standards and codes
