Oceanographer Job Description

Oceanographers study the ocean and ocean-related phenomena.

They observe the ocean using scientific instruments, collect samples, and analyze the data.

Due to our close proximity, most oceanographers are actively involved in improving the health of marine ecosystems.

Also, many oceanographers are involved with coastal, marine, and estuarine management.

Some oceanographers work directly on large ocean-going vessels such as research ships, commercial ships, and warships.

Others work in a lab or on land, using various instruments to measure the temperature and salinity of the ocean.
