They assist in examinations, treatments, and the sale of eyewear.

Responsibilities of an optometrist assistant include helping patients in and out of examination chairs, helping patients fill out insurance forms, explaining the progress of patient’s health, and updating patient records.

As an Optometric Assistant, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, performing vision screenings and assisting the Optometrist with patient care. Optometric Assistant Duties:

  • Perform office duties to include answering telephones, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, filing, and ordering supplies
  • Assist in optical testing procedures
  • Assist in measuring and fitting eyeglasses
  • Assist in frame selection
  • Assist in contact lens fitting
  • Provide information to patients regarding insurance and coverage
  • Provide superior customer service
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Sign in and correct chart charts
  • Attend to office clerical duties
  • Copy and fax
  • Order supplies as needed
  • Maintain patient records
  • Ensure that all patient files are accurate and up-to-date
