Job Brief:

Optometric Technician Duties:

  • Maintain quality control of optometry examination equipment, maintaining instrument and parts inventory
  • Perform eye exams for patients and provide optical prescriptions
  • Perform contact lens exams
  • Fault find, repair, and maintain optical equipment
  • Interface with patients, doctors, and other eye care professionals
  • Understand patient consultation and examination procedures
  • Follow up on patient referrals
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ophthalmic history
  • Meet all insurance requirements
  • Work collaboratively with office staff to maintain optimum patient flow
  • Assist with marketing activities
  • Manage, review and modify scopes of practice for doctors
  • Clarify responsibilities for physicians regarding employment and collegiate medical plans
  • Promote positive work environment through participation and communication
  • Meet all compliance regulations

Optometric Technician Responsibilities:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an ophthalmic technician
  • Knowledge of automated dispensing systems
  • Previous experience as an optometric assistant
  • Ability to quickly learn new practices, procedures, and products
  • Basic computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,

Requirements And Skills:

  • Assist with clinical operations, including exam room setup, patient evaluations, and follow-up
  • Prescribe corrective and preventive eyewear
  • Administer and review patient paperwork
  • Enter patient data into electronic medical records
  • Provide patient information and respond to patient inquiries
  • Exercise sound judgment in making recommendations to patients, their families, and referring physicians regarding eye care and corrective eyewear
  • Demonstrate professionalism at all times in interactions with patients and coworkers, and communicate with them in a positive and respectful manner
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by maintaining calm demeanor when dealing with difficult or frustrating situations
