OTR Driver Job Description

An OTR truck driver is one who drives over the road (OTR) for extended periods of time, often 40 hours or more.

This is one of the most demanding and stressful jobs in the world.

To become an OTR driver, an individual must be 21-years-old and able to pass a comprehensive driving test.

OTR drivers must have a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) and a clean driving record.

In addition, individuals must pass a physical examination; pass a background check; and have a valid passport.

Most OTR drivers usually work 70 to 80 hours a week.

Drivers usually work from Monday.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for OTR Drivers who are willing to work long hours to get the job done. We need drivers who are reliable and have a good driving record.

OTR Driver Duties:

  • Drive over the road trucks (tractor-trailers) and tractor/trailer combinations
  • Operate vehicles according to Federal and state regulations
  • Comfortably and correctly operate trucks
  • Maintain records on shipments and deliveries
  • Communicate with customers and relay information
  • Operate trucks safely
  • Respect all safety regulations

OTR Driver Responsibilities:

  • Provides customers with timely, courteous, and safe delivery of products to meet customer expectations; unloads freight and packages from delivery vehicles and inventory lots; communicates with customers, co-workers, supervisors, and management to resolve issues; and functions effectively as a team member
  • Keeps company vehicles clean and presentable
  • Drives company vehicles according to safety policies
  • Helps drivers with loading and unloading of freight
  • Ensures smooth and timely delivery of products throughout assigned territory
  • Drives company vehicles to assigned locations within the city, suburbs, and rural areas

Requirements And Skills:

  • TDC Class A CDL
  • 5+ years OTR driving experience
  • Excellent driving record
  • Strong knowledge of current DOT regulations
  • Strong customer service skills
