A commercial truck driver who operates his or her vehicle on his or her own, rather than driving for an employer.

Owner-operators, also known as [solo drivers] are contracted drivers that operate a truck and lead their own rig.

These drivers control all aspects of their business.

Owner-operators are not considered employees by their employer; rather, they are independent contractors.

Independent contractors are self-employed individuals or companies, usually self-employed entrepreneurs, who perform work or services as contractors for a third party, rather than as employees.

Owner-operators must sometimes work through third-party brokers.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for an Owner Operator who is responsible and experienced. Someone who is comfortable working long hours and is able to handle a fast-paced environment.

Owner Operator Duties:

  • Developing and maintaining long-term, lucrative business relationships with corporate and agency clients, while establishing a network of referral sources
  • Keeps up-to-date on industry news and developments
  • Monitoring clients needs and expectations, identifying new opportunities necessary to meet and exceed their expectations, and providing positive feedback
  • Maintaining relationships with clients at all times, ensuring they are satisfied, and proactively identifying and solving any problems that may arise
  • Developing and maintaining professional and ethical relationships with clients
  • Developing and implementing effective client management strategies
  • Improving client satisfaction by keeping current on industry, business, and competitors
  • Managing all Sitter city business needs, including but not limited to, hiring, training and supervising employees, and scheduling
  • Successfully managing budgets, expenses, and cash flow
  • Generating revenue through referrals
  • Maintaining effective communications with internal and external staff
  • Maintaining current licensing

Owner Operator Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and negotiate all transportation contracts
  • Control and oversee transportation of employees, supplies, and materials to and from project sites, to focus on safety and efficiency
  • Maintain daily logs and update/revise load/haul documentation as needed

Requirements And Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience operating trucks
  • Obtain and maintain commercial motor vehicle operator’s license as required
